Three days of commemorations marking the 150th anniversary of the April Uprising commenced in Panagyurishte at the Memorial House Theatre on Thursday. The festivities began with the “150 Greetings from Around the World” initiative, which featured video messages contributed by children and youth from across the globe. Following this, a theatrical performance was presented, based on Stefan Tsanev’s work, Children of the World.
During his address, Panagyurishte Mayor Zhelyazko Gagov thanked attendees for their commitment to preserving historical memory, stating that the participation demonstrated a connection to something larger than the local community: Bulgaria. Dignitaries in attendance included BTA Director General Kiril Valchev, Bulgarian National Radio Director General Milen Mitev, Prof. Georgi Valchev, Rector of the St Kliment Ohridski University of Sofia, and journalist Boyko Vassilev.
Earlier that day, participants attended a conference organized by BTA and hosted by the Panagyurishte History Museum, focusing on the 150th anniversary of the Uprising. The commemorative events are scheduled to continue with a large-scale flamesshow at the 20 April Square in Panagyurishte. The international participation seen in the greetings initiative highlighted the global resonance of the historical event.
