Three-day commemorations marking the 150th anniversary of the April Uprising commenced in Panagyurishte on Thursday. The celebration began at the Memorial House Theatre with the “150 Greetings from Around the World” initiative, featuring video messages contributed by children and youth from various corners of the globe. Following this global participation, a theatrical performance was staged, based on Stefan Tsanev’s work, Children of the World.

During his address, Panagyurishte Mayor Zhelyazko Gagov acknowledged the presence of attendees, emphasizing the importance of preserving historical memory. He stated that the gathering demonstrated a shared connection to something larger than the individual, specifically referencing Bulgaria. Notable attendees included Kiril Valchev, Director General of BTA; Milen Mitev, Director General of Bulgarian National Radio (BNR); Prof.

Georgi Valchev, Rector of the St Kliment Ohridski University of Sofia; and Boyko Vassilev, a journalist and presenter for the Bulgarian National Television’s Panorama talk show. Earlier in the day, participants convened for a conference organized by BTA and hosted by the Panagyurishte History Museum, dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the Uprising. The commemorative events are ongoing, with the celebrations continuing through a 150 Flamesshow scheduled for the 20 April Square in Panagyurishte.

The initiatives underscore a sustained effort to connect the local community with a broader, worldwide acknowledgment of Bulgaria’s historical significance.
