-Day Marking of April Uprising Launched in Panagyurishte with 150 Greetings from Around the World Initiative

Three-day commemorations marking the 150th anniversary of the April Uprising commenced on Thursday in Panagyurishte. The initial events featured the “150 Greetings from Around the World” initiative, where global children and youth participated by sending video messages. Following this, a theatrical performance was staged, adapted from Stefan Tsanev’s work, Children of the World.

During his address, Panagyurishte Mayor Zhelyazko Gagov expressed gratitude to those in attendance for their dedication to preserving historical memory, stating that the shared commitment demonstrated their connection to a history larger than themselves: Bulgaria. Notable attendees included BTA Director General Kiril Valchev, Bulgarian National Radio (BNR) Director General Milen Mitev, Professor Georgi Valchev, Rector of the St Kliment Ohridski University of Sofia, and journalist Boyko Vassilev. Earlier in the day, attendees participated in a conference organized by BTA and hosted by the Panagyurishte History Museum, focusing specifically on the 150th anniversary of the Uprising.

The commemorative activities are scheduled to continue throughout the period, culminating in a 150 Flamesshow at the 20 April Square in Panagyurishte. The international nature of the tributes, exemplified by the greetings received from around the world, underscored the significance of the historical event for the broader community.
