Describes Assessment as Key to Energy Efficiency Projects

Minister of Energy, Traicho Traikov, stated in Sofia that the successful implementation of energy improvement projects is contingent upon thorough initial assessment, emphasizing that the work of energy efficiency consultants is a critical component of the entire process. Speaking at the National Meeting of Energy Efficiency Consultants, Traikov warned that flawed preliminary steps can increase the cost and uncertainty of all subsequent actions. The meeting, organized by the Chamber of Energy Auditors and the Association of Bulgarian Cities and Regions, highlighted the national commitment to EU climate goals.

Traikov referenced the 2050 target, which mandates that the building stock achieve zero greenhouse gas emissions. He noted that countries that proactively signal their readiness to meet this goal tend to secure greater funding and support mechanisms, citing Greece’s plan to eliminate its coal industry by 2030. While acknowledging that Bulgarian buildings rank among the least energy efficient in Europe, he suggested this situation also presents significant potential for community-wide transformation.

During the forum, Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Public Works, Dora Yankova, announced that the inclusion of lifts in future energy renovation projects is under consideration following discussions with relevant agencies and NGOs. She pointed out that approximately 80% of the country’s elevators are over thirty years old. Addressing journalists afterward, Traikov clarified that any future government measures designed to support citizens and businesses amid rising fuel prices would fall under the purview of a future administration.
