During an appearance on Bulgarian National Television, Central Election Commission (CEC) Deputy Chair and spokesperson Rositsa Mateva stated that no reports of vote rigging were received concerning the April 19 parliamentary election. Addressing hypothetical allegations of result manipulation concerning Siyanie (Radiance), which were raised by civil movement leader Nikolay Popov, Mateva commented that she hoped there would be no appeals, noting the positive assessments from international observers and the caretaker government. Regarding a specific incident in Montana, where a section election commission (SEC) member allegedly cast ten ballots for others, the deputy explained that other SEC members were present.
She criticized the inaction of those individuals, stating that once ballots were deposited, they could not be recovered. Mateva stressed that this was an isolated case among nearly 13,000 voting sections. Concerning staffing, she reported that all replacements for SEC members were based on personal refusal.
She confirmed that the CEC continues to work with various caretaker governments, acknowledging that cooperation levels varied. Overall, Mateva expressed confidence that the election was conducted fairly and normally, noting a lack of tension and good communication with the Public Council. She added that thirteen Members of Parliament elected across two constituencies are expected to select one representative on Friday.
Mateva concluded by reflecting on the CEC’s tenure, noting that the commission has overseen numerous elections over the past five years.
