The RitmiKKa folk dance troupe from Hamburg, Germany, is set to participate in the 11th Expats Join Hands in Worldwide Dance travelling festival, scheduled to take place in Munich from May 15 to 17. Kamen Kunev, the headmaster and choreographer of the troupe, stated that the group will perform a specific dance created approximately 60 years ago by choreographer Zahari Andreev. Kunev emphasized that selecting this particular piece is an effort to preserve the work of prominent figures in the performing arts.
He noted that such traditional dances remain vital, symbolizing the unity found in community gatherings. According to Kunev, the dance evokes the spirit of a village square, reminiscent of evenings when people gathered by a fire for music, song, and dance. He stated the goal of participating in the festival is to demonstrate that the spirit of togetherness endures, regardless of geographical location.
The troupe has prepared for the performance with new costumes, which were designed by fashion designer Nikolay Kolev, following extensive rehearsals throughout the season. The Expats Join Hands festival is dedicated to amateur folklore ensembles performing outside of Bulgaria. The initiative was first established by the Ot Izvora group in Lyon, France.
The 11th edition in Munich anticipates participation from over 100 dance ensembles and an attendance of more than 4,000 guests. The Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) serves as the official media partner for the event.
