The Veselyatsite folk fitness group from Madrid and the Severnyatsi folk dance formation from Segovia, Spain, are scheduled to participate together at the eleventh edition of “Expats Join Hands in Worldwide Dance.” This international event will take place from May 15 to 17 at BMW Park in Munich, Germany. Mariyana Topalska, leader of the Veselyatsite group, explained that the performance they have prepared recreates the memories of an elderly couple anticipating their daughter’s wedding. The performance depicts the couple reminiscing about their own youth and early romance while awaiting the arrival of matchmakers.
Topalska stated that the central message of the dance is the transient nature of life, emphasizing that love is eternal. She added that without love, warmth, and companionship, other aspects of life hold little value. The Severnyatsi dance formation, led by Galya Marinova and established in 2015, will join the Veselyatsite group for this joint appearance.
Topalska highlighted that this collaboration offers a chance to combine the efforts of both ensembles and present Bulgarian culture to a global audience. The choreography resulted from the joint work of the dancers from both groups and former Severnyatsi leader Antoniy Angelov. The traveling festival, “Expats Join Hands in Worldwide Dance,” is organized for amateur folklore ensembles performing outside Bulgaria.
The initiative was founded by the Ot Izvora group in Lyon, France, which hosted the first edition in 2015 and the tenth edition in 2025. The upcoming Munich festival anticipates participation from over 100 dance ensembles and an attendance of more than 4,000 guests. The Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) is the official media partner for the event.
