The Chemshir Bulgarian Folklore Club, based in Armagh, northern Ireland, is set to participate in a special collaborative performance at the 11th Expats Join Hands in Worldwide Dance travelling festival. This event, focused on folklore, will take place in Munich from May 15 to 17. The performance will feature dancers representing several nations, including Greece, Cyprus, the USA, and the club’s home region, underscoring its significance as a representation of the global Bulgarian diaspora’s connection through dance.
Plamena Chemshirova, the dance group leader, stated that the performance will include a Thracian dance originating from the Pazardzhik Region. She explained that the choreography narrates themes of young love, the strength of friendship, and the inherent magic of the Bulgarian horo, which she described as a unifying force. The Expats Join Hands in Worldwide Dance travelling festival is dedicated to supporting amateur folklore ensembles performing outside of Bulgaria.
The initiative was established by the Ot Izvora group in Lyon, France, which has hosted previous editions, including the first in 2015 and the tenth in 2025. Organizers anticipate that the 11th edition in Munich will draw over 100 dance ensembles and an attendance of more than 4,000 guests. The Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) serves as the official media partner for the event and will provide coverage for all participating groups.
