Football Union Head Georgi Ivanov and Hristo Stoichkov Take Part in FIFA Tournament before Organization’s Congress

Bulgarian Football Union President Georgi Ivanov participated in a legends game tournament organized by FIFA in Vancouver, Canada, on the eve of the 76th Congress of the global governing body. Ivanov was a member of the European football governing body’s team, which featured renowned soccer figures such as David Trezeguet, Andriy Shevchenko, Goran Pandev, Davor Suker, and Michel Salgado. The UEFA team advanced to the semifinals but was ultimately defeated by the Canadian squad, which included Hristo Stoichkov and Demetrio Albertini.

The event served as a gathering for many iconic figures in world football. In addition to the sporting event, the official delegation from the Bulgarian Football Union, led by Ivanov and accompanied by Deputy Executive Directors Iveta Bankova and Dobrin Gyonov, attended a working meeting with UEFA member associations. This meeting took place the day before the FIFA Congress.

Key agenda items for the upcoming Congress were discussed during the session. Furthermore, the delegates addressed critical issues pertaining to the ongoing development of both European and world football. The combination of the celebratory tournament and the strategic working meeting allowed the Bulgarian delegation to engage with both the cultural side and the administrative planning aspects of international football.

Ivanov’s involvement highlighted the continued connection between the national federation and the broader international football community as preparatory work for the major congress continued.
