The Caretaker Minister of Youth and Sports, Dimitar Iliev, recently convened an online working meeting with representatives from the various institutions tasked with organizing the initial three stages of the 2026 Giro d’Italia in Bulgaria. According to the Ministry of Sports report issued Friday, the meeting agenda focused on assessing current organizational progress, enhancing inter-institutional coordination, and mapping out key forthcoming activities for the cycling event. Minister Iliev addressed the attendees, emphasizing that successful staging of an event of this magnitude requires robust collaboration among all involved bodies.

He acknowledged the commitment demonstrated by all parties while expressing confidence in the collective efforts to ensure the competition’s smooth execution. Participants confirmed that preparations are proceeding according to the established timeline. Discussions covered critical elements including participant and spectator safety protocols, comprehensive logistics management, and overall organizational structure for the race.

The itinerary for the three stages within Bulgaria is set to commence in Nessebar on the Black Sea coast on May 8. The route will subsequently traverse Burgas, Veliko Tarnovo, and Plovdiv, concluding in Sofia on May 10. To support the coverage, BTA has launched a dedicated online section titled “Giro d’Italia 2026 – Cycling in Bulgaria,” detailing the country’s participation in this major leg of the Giro d’Italia.

The coordination efforts underscore Bulgaria’s role in hosting this segment of the prestigious Italian race.
