Gospodinov’s Novel “Time Shelter” Published in Japan, Breaks Into Top 5 Foreign Bestsellers

Georgi Gospodinov announced that his novel, Time Shelter, has been released into the Japanese book market. Through a post on Facebook, Gospodinov shared the news, stating, “I am happy to share that in April Time Shelter was published in Japan by the Kayakawa publishing house in Tokyo.”

The author highlighted the significance of this release, noting that according to initial reviews, it marks the first Bulgarian novel published in Japan since 1989, representing a notable milestone for Bulgarian literature in the country. Currently, the book ranks among the top five best-selling foreign publications on Amazon Japan.

Gospodinov also mentioned the translation process, noting that Kenji Terashima handled the Japanese translation. In a lighthearted addition to his announcement, he joked, “Gaustin speaks Japanese. And he arrived in Japan before me – we will settle this.”

This publication marks another international success for Gospodinov, whose works have been translated into numerous languages, including English, German, Polish, Dutch, Croatian, Spanish, Norwegian, Swedish, Chinese, Arabic, and Brazilian Portuguese.

The successful publication of Time Shelter in Japan solidifies the global reach of the author’s work, establishing a new literary presence for him in the Japanese market.
