The novel Time Shelter has been released in the Japanese book market, according to announcements from its author, Georgi Gospodinov. Gospodinov stated on Facebook, “I am happy to share that in April Time Shelter was published in Japan by the Kayakawa publishing house in Tokyo.” He further noted that the book represents a significant milestone, being the first Bulgarian novel published in Japan since 1989, marking a notable achievement for Bulgarian literature in the country. Currently, the novel is listed among the top five best-selling foreign publications on Amazon Japan.
In his post, Gospodinov added a lighthearted comment regarding the book’s translation, mentioning, “Gaustin speaks Japanese. And he arrived in Japan before me – we will settle this.” He credited Kenji Terashima with handling the translation. Georgi Gospodinov’s works have achieved international recognition, with his books translated into numerous languages, including English, German, Polish, Dutch, Croatian, Spanish, Norwegian, Swedish, Chinese, Arabic, and Brazilian Portuguese.
