Has Sufficient Reserves of Aviation Fuel, Says Transport Commissioner

During his participation in the Delphi Economic Forum, the EU Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism, Apostolos Tzitzikostas, stated that the European Union maintains sufficient reserves of aviation fuel, capable of sustaining operations for up to three months through emergency stocks. Addressing the ongoing energy crisis, Tzitzikostas suggested that recent flight cancellations reported by some airlines are primarily linked to escalating fuel costs rather than actual supply deficits. The Commissioner characterized the current energy situation as unprecedented in history, leading to predictions of a challenging summer period.

Furthermore, he warned that prolonged instability in the Middle East could trigger severe global repercussions. In response to geopolitical dynamics, Tzitzikostas highlighted the EU’s military mobility plan, which involves the modernization of 500 strategically important sites across the continent. On the economic front, he also forecasted a noticeable downturn in tourist arrivals originating from Asia traveling to Europe.

The Delphi Forum itself is a major gathering, continuing through Saturday, April 25th, and featuring over 200 discussions and panels. The event draws approximately 1,200 international speakers, including representatives from governments, academia, and business sectors, focusing on key themes such as geopolitics, economic shifts, and technological transformations.
