Has Sufficient Reserves of Aviation Fuel, Says Transport Commissioner

During his participation in the Delphi Economic Forum, the EU Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism, Apostolos Tzitzikostas, addressed concerns regarding energy security, stating that the European Union maintains sufficient reserves of aviation fuel, capable of sustaining operations for up to three months. In his commentary, Tzitzikostas attributed recent flight cancellations by some airlines primarily to escalating fuel costs rather than actual supply shortages. He characterized the current energy crisis as unprecedented and forecast a challenging summer period ahead.

The Commissioner also cautioned that the global implications of an unresolved conflict in the Middle East could be severe. Regarding internal preparedness, he highlighted the EU’s military mobility plan, which involves the modernization of 500 strategically important sites across the continent. Furthermore, Tzitzikostas predicted a significant downturn in tourist arrivals originating from Asia traveling to Europe.

The Delphi Forum, which continues until Saturday, April 25, serves as a major gathering for international dialogue. It features over 200 discussions and panels involving approximately 1,200 speakers from government bodies, international organizations, academia, and the business sector. The forum’s scope encompasses critical topics including geopolitics, economic trends, and technological transformations.
