The Kaleto Historical Park in Svishtov officially reopened on Friday evening, following more than six years of intensive excavations and comprehensive renovations. The reopening ceremony, held in front of the Kaleto Interactive Centre, featured cultural events, including a concert and a 3D laser mapping show. Archaeological findings at the Kaleto site revealed historical layers, with experts noting that the excavations only represent a portion of the area’s medieval significance.
According to the Culture and Cultural Heritage Directorate, the goal of the comprehensive reconstruction is to preserve the cultural and historical heritage while revitalizing the urban environment, thereby creating a more accessible and appealing destination for both local residents and visitors to Svishtov. The project’s conceptual design was realized with nearly EUR 3 million in funding, sourced through the State Budget Act under the municipality’s investment program. Svishtov Mayor Gencho Genchev stated that the timing of the opening on May 1 was deliberate, as it coincides with the 150th anniversary of the April Uprising and International Workers’ Day.
