Representatives from the transport sector, alongside clients and employees of DallBogg: Life and Health Insurance, assembled in Sofia on Thursday to protest and demand the resignation of the Financial Supervision Commission (FSC). The joint demonstration, involving various industry organizations and the insurer’s personnel, was held outside the National Assembly and the Council of Ministers. The protesters’ primary demands include the immediate cessation of what they describe as “ongoing repression against the company” and a halt to the “criminal increase in prices of mandatory motor third-party liability insurance.” They indicated plans to proceed to the FSC’s headquarters following the initial demonstration.
The timing of the protest coincides with the first sitting of the 52nd Parliament. The demonstrators warned that further protests would occur if their demands were not met, suggesting that other sectors affected by rising compulsory insurance costs might also participate. The controversy stems from an early April action by the FSC, which prohibited DallBogg: Life and Health Insurance from entering into new insurance or reinsurance contracts, or extending existing ones.
The FSC justified this measure as a protective action for policyholders, citing alleged violations of market conduct rules and breaches of the Insurance Code to ensure the company’s solvency.
