Insurance Company Employees, Transport Sector Representatives Protest in Sofia, Demand Financial Regulator’s Resignation

Representatives from the transport sector, alongside clients and employees of DallBogg: Life and Health Insurance, assembled in Sofia on Thursday to protest and demand the resignation of the Financial Supervision Commission (FSC). The joint demonstration, involving various industry organizations and the insurer’s personnel, took place outside the National Assembly and the Council of Ministers, marking the first session of the 52nd Parliament. The protesters’ primary demands center on the resignation of the FSC, with plans to proceed to the commission’s headquarters afterward.

Key grievances include the “immediate end to ongoing repression against the company and the criminal increase in prices of mandatory motor third-party liability insurance.” Protesters issued a warning that continued actions would follow if their demands were not met, suggesting that other sectors impacted by rising compulsory insurance costs might also participate in future demonstrations. The protest recalls a measure implemented by the FSC in early April, which banned DallBogg: Life and Health Insurance from entering into new insurance or reinsurance contracts, or from extending or expanding existing ones. The FSC had stated that this action was intended to safeguard policyholders’ interests and ensure the company’s solvency, citing violations of market conduct rules and breaches of the Insurance Code as the justification.
