Insurance Company Employees, Transport Sector Representatives Protest in Sofia, Demand Financial Regulator’s Resignation

Representatives from the transport sector, alongside clients and employees of DallBogg: Life and Health Insurance, gathered in Sofia on Thursday to protest the actions of the Financial Supervision Commission (FSC). The joint demonstration, which took place in front of the National Assembly and the Council of Ministers on the first day of the 52nd Parliament, called for the resignation of the FSC. The protesters voiced specific concerns regarding the current regulatory climate, demanding an end to what they termed ongoing restrictions on the insurance company and addressing the rising costs associated with mandatory motor third-party liability insurance.

They indicated that if their demands were not met, further demonstrations could occur, potentially involving other industries impacted by escalating compulsory insurance premiums. The controversy stems from a measure implemented by the FSC in early April. The regulator imposed a ban on DallBogg: Life and Health Insurance from entering into new or extending existing insurance or reinsurance contracts across various classes.

The FSC stated that this directive was intended to safeguard policyholder interests and ensure the company’s financial stability, citing alleged breaches of the Insurance Code and market conduct rules as the basis for the action. The mobilization represents a convergence of concerns within the broader economy, linking the operational needs of the transport sector with the regulatory oversight of the insurance industry. The protesters plan to continue their advocacy by heading to the FSC headquarters following their assembly at the governmental buildings.
