Insurance Company Employees, Transport Sector Representatives Protest in Sofia, Demand Financial Regulator’s Resignation

Representatives from the transport sector, alongside clients and staff of DallBogg: Life and Health Insurance, assembled in Sofia on Thursday to protest the actions of the Financial Supervision Commission (FSC). The joint demonstration took place in front of the National Assembly and the Council of Ministers, coinciding with the first session of the 52nd Parliament. The demonstrators are demanding the resignation of the FSC.

Their primary grievances include an immediate cessation of what they term “ongoing repression” against the insurance provider and opposition to the escalating costs of mandatory motor third-party liability insurance. Protesters indicated plans to proceed to the FSC headquarters following their assembly. They warned that further demonstrations would occur if their demands were not addressed, suggesting that other sectors affected by rising compulsory insurance premiums might also participate.

The protest stems from a directive issued by the FSC in early April. This directive prohibited DallBogg from entering into new or re-insuring contracts, or extending existing coverage across various classes. The FSC stated that this measure was implemented to safeguard policyholder interests and ensure the company’s solvency, citing alleged violations of market conduct rules and breaches of the Insurance Code as the basis for the restrictions.
