Representatives from the transport sector, alongside clients and employees of DallBogg: Life and Health Insurance, assembled in Sofia on Thursday to protest the Financial Supervision Commission (FSC). The joint demonstration, involving various industry organizations and the staff of the insurer, took place in front of the National Assembly and the Council of Ministers, coinciding with the first session of the 52nd Parliament. The protesters’ primary demands center on the resignation of the FSC.
Furthermore, they called for an immediate cessation of actions they characterize as “repression” against DallBogg and a halt to the rising costs associated with mandatory motor third-party liability insurance. The demonstrators warned that failure to address their concerns could lead to further protests, potentially involving other industries impacted by escalating compulsory insurance rates. The dispute stems from an early April directive issued by the FSC.
This directive banned DallBogg from securing new or renewing insurance or reinsurance contracts, either across all classes or specific ones. The FSC stated that this measure was implemented to safeguard policyholder interests and ensure the company’s solvency, citing breaches of the Insurance Code and market conduct rules as the basis for the action. The gathering highlights ongoing tensions between industry stakeholders and the regulatory body overseeing the insurance market.
The unified protest from the transport sector underscores the financial impact of regulatory decisions on vital commercial operations.
