An overnight drone attack struck the Black Sea city of Odesa, in Southern Ukraine, resulting in two fatalities and fourteen injuries, according to Oleh Kiper, Head of the Odesa Regional Military Administration. Rescuers from the State Emergency Service evacuated 36 residents, including two children, from the affected areas. The repercussions of the Russian strike on Odesa included significant damage to residential zones.
Kiper reported that at least three residential buildings sustained substantial harm, with reports of destroyed facades, damaged apartments, and shattered windows. Authorities stated that all relevant services are currently working to manage the aftermath of the overnight assault. Furthermore, the incident involved damage to a merchant vessel flying the flag of Saint Kitts and Nevis, which was en route to a port in Greater Odesa.
A fire broke out aboard the ship but was reportedly extinguished quickly by the crew, with no casualties reported in connection with the vessel. Separately, the report provided demographic context for the region. According to official census data, Bulgarians constitute a significant population group in the Odesa Region.
While the region has over 150,000 Bulgarian residents, approximately 50,000 to 60,000 reside specifically within the city of Odesa. The largest concentrations of this community are noted in the Bolhrad, Izmail, and Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi districts.
