According to Oleh Kiper, Head of the Odesa Regional Military Administration, an overnight drone attack struck the Black Sea city of Odesa, Southern Ukraine. Kiper reported that the incident resulted in two fatalities and fourteen injuries. Rescuers from the State Emergency Service evacuated 36 residents, including two children, from the affected areas.
The repercussions of the Russian attack were extensive. In addition to residential damage, a merchant vessel flying the flag of Saint Kitts and Nevis, which was en route to a port in Greater Odesa, sustained damage. A fire broke out on the ship but was reportedly extinguished by the crew, with no casualties reported from the vessel.
Kiper further stated that at least three residential buildings sustained significant damage, with reports indicating destroyed facades and shattered windows. Authorities confirmed that relevant services are actively working to manage the aftermath of the overnight assault. The report also included demographic context regarding the Odesa region.
Historically, Bulgarians represent a significant population group in the area. According to official census data, Bulgarians constituted the third-largest population group in Ukraine in 2001, with estimates suggesting that 50,000 to 60,000 Bulgarians reside specifically within the city of Odesa. The largest concentrations of the Bulgarian population are noted in the Bolhrad, Izmail, and Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi districts.
