An overnight drone attack targeted the city of Odesa in Southern Ukraine, resulting in reports of two people killed and fourteen injured, according to Oleh Kiper, Head of the Odesa Regional Military Administration. Following the incident, rescuers from the State Emergency Service evacuated 36 residents, including two children, from the affected area. The repercussions of the attack were widespread, causing significant damage to residential infrastructure across Odesa.
At least three residential buildings sustained major damage, with reports indicating that apartments and facades were destroyed and windows were shattered. Emergency services are currently working to manage the aftermath of the overnight event. Additionally, a merchant vessel flying the flag of Saint Kitts and Nevis, which was en route to a port in Greater Odesa, sustained damage.
A fire broke out aboard the ship but was reportedly extinguished by the crew, with no casualties reported from the vessel itself. In addition to the damage assessment, the region’s demographic context was noted. Official census data indicated that Bulgarians represent a substantial population group in the area.
As of 2001, they were the third largest group in Ukraine, with over 150,000 residents in the Odesa Region, including an estimated 50,000 to 60,000 within the city of Odesa itself. The most concentrated Bulgarian populations are reported in the Bolhrad, Izmail, and Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi districts.
