An overnight drone attack targeting the Black Sea city of Odesa, in Southern Ukraine, resulted in two fatalities and fourteen injuries, according to Oleh Kiper, Head of the Odesa Regional Military Administration. Kiper reported that State Emergency Service rescuers evacuated 36 residents, including two children, from the affected areas. The consequences of the hostile action in Odesa included significant damage to residential infrastructure.
At least three apartment buildings sustained major damage, with reports detailing destroyed facades and shattered windows. Authorities stated that relevant services are currently working to manage the aftermath of the overnight assault. Additionally, the attack impacted maritime activity.
A merchant vessel flying the flag of Saint Kitts and Nevis, which was en route to a port in Greater Odesa, sustained damage. A fire broke out aboard the ship but was reportedly extinguished quickly by the crew, with no casualties reported from the vessel. The population context of the region was also noted.
According to historical census data, Bulgarians constitute a significant demographic presence in the Odesa Region, numbering over 150,000 individuals, making them the third largest group in Ukraine in 2001. Within the city of Odesa itself, an estimated 50,000 to 60,000 Bulgarian residents reside, with the largest concentration found in the Bolhrad, Izmail, and Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi districts.
