Language Classroom Will Open at Bulgarian Sunday School in Tatarbunary

A multimedia language classroom designed for the study of Bulgarian was inaugurated in Tatarbunary, Ukraine, receiving support from Bulgaria. Svetoslav Ivanov, Consul General of Bulgaria in Odesa, announced the opening, noting that the project adheres to a governmental decree and a broader program supporting Bulgarian communities in neighboring countries, including Ukraine. Ivanov explained that the initiative was proposed by the Tatarbunary Bulgarian Cultural and Educational Society Rodolyubie, which operates the school.

The primary goal of the project is to preserve and advance Bulgarian culture and linguistic identity. By utilizing modern teaching tools, the school aims to encourage students of Bulgarian descent to acquire knowledge and maintain their historical connection to Bulgaria. The support is deemed particularly significant because the Bulgarian Sunday School operates within a mixed-population area.

The Bulgarian Sunday School Balgarche was established in 2014. Its educational scope expanded in the 2016–2017 academic year with the opening of three additional branches across the Kiliia district. Beyond language instruction, the institution offers workshops in folk dance, traditional instruments, singing, theatrical folk art, and applied arts.

Currently, the school serves 341 students engaged in extracurricular activities, supported by 45 teachers. As a member of the World Association of Bulgarian Schools Abroad, the center plays a role in cultural continuity. The new multimedia classroom enhances the school’s capacity to deliver comprehensive language and cultural education, solidifying its mission to transmit Bulgarian heritage to the next generation.
