The Megdanski Leventi, a duo featuring Aleksander Andonov from Nessebar, Bulgaria, and Georgi Dushev from Castelo de Rugat, Spain, will present a piece titled “A Walk Through The Shopluka” at the 11th annual “Expats Join Hands in Worldwide Dance” gathering. This event is scheduled to take place from May 15 to 17 at the BMW Park in Munich, Germany. The 16-year-old musicians, graduates of the bagpipe teacher Petko Stoyanov in Nessebar, described their performance as embodying “music with a bright character, lively rhythm and genuine folk spirit.” The pair noted that their connection, which formed the basis of the duo, stems from a shared passion for Bulgarian folk music, despite their geographical separation.
They mentioned that while their friendship is often maintained online, their in-person meetings during holidays are highly valued. The group also added that their performance incorporates elements of humor, which they hope will entertain and surprise the audience. The “Expats Join Hands in Worldwide Dance” festival is dedicated to amateur folklore ensembles performing outside of Bulgaria.
The initiative was originally launched by the Ot Izvora group in Lyon, France, which has hosted previous editions, including the first in 2015. The 11th edition in Munich anticipates participation from over 100 dance ensembles and an attendance of more than 4,000 guests. The Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) serves as the official media partner for the event and will feature all participants.
