LIK Issue Dedicated to 150 Years Since April Uprising Launches in Koprivshtitsa

The latest issue of BTA’s LIK magazine is dedicated to commemorating the 150th anniversary of the April Uprising of 1876. The Bulgarian News Agency’s thematic publication explores the event through its archives, presenting historical records and documentation of past commemorations held at BTA’s national press clubs. The magazine incorporates commentary from educators, public figures, and local representatives from the revolutionary districts associated with the uprising.

The official launch of the issue is scheduled for Monday, April 20, at the St. Cyril and Methodius School in Koprivshtitsa, coinciding with the Day of the First Shot. Director General Kiril Valchev noted that the publication synthesizes discussions held at national press clubs and in the four revolutionary districts—Veliko Tarnovo, Sliven, Vratsa, and Panagyurishte.

He emphasized that while the discussions highlighted lessons relevant to the present, the consensus reached was the necessity of focusing on overarching goals, as the uprising ultimately led to Bulgaria’s freedom. Commentary within the LIK magazine further examines the significance of the event. One article highlighted the youth of the leaders, contrasting their political pursuit of freedom with conventional expectations.

Another piece framed the uprising as a defining moment for the Bulgarian national character. The publication also features a thematic timeline compiling archival news reports spanning from BTA’s founding in 1898 to the present. This timeline recalls historical coverage, including accounts from contemporaries and foreign writers.

Furthermore, the issue previews future commemorative events, detailing planned discussions marking the 150th anniversary in 2026.
