LIK Issue Dedicated to 150 Years Since April Uprising Launches in Koprivshtitsa

The latest issue of BTA’s LIK magazine focuses on the 150th anniversary of the April Uprising, which began in 1876. The publication, which covers literature, culture, and art, utilizes BTA’s archives to present historical information alongside records of commemorations held over the years. The magazine features commentary from educators, public figures, and local representatives from the revolutionary districts connected to the uprising.

The launch of the LIK magazine is scheduled for April 20th at the St St Cyril and Methodius School in Koprivshtitsa, coinciding with the Day of the First Gunshot. The event will be jointly streamed with BTA’s national press clubs both within Bulgaria and internationally. Partners include the Koprivshtitsa Municipality and the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, which is also releasing its own publication on the subject.

In an introduction, BTA Director General Kiril Valchev noted that the issue compiles key discussions held across the national press clubs and the four revolutionary districts: Veliko Tarnovo, Sliven, Vratsa, and Panagyurishte. He emphasized that while the discussions highlighted lessons from the April Uprising, the consensus remained focused on achieving national goals, ultimately leading to Bulgaria’s freedom. Commentary within the magazine also addresses the youth of the uprising’s leaders, noting their commitment to political freedom.

Prof. Georgi Valchev discussed how these young men prioritized self-determination over familial wealth accumulation. Furthermore, the LIK magazine includes a thematic timeline drawing from BTA’s archives, spanning from the agency’s founding to the present day.

The publication also looks ahead, detailing commemorative plans for the 150th anniversary in 2026.
