LIK Issue Dedicated to 150 Years Since April Uprising Launches in Koprivshtitsa

The latest issue of BTA’s LIK magazine is dedicated to marking the 150th anniversary of the April Uprising of 1876. This thematic publication compiles information on literature, culture, and art related to the historical event, utilizing BTA’s archives to present commemorations held over the years. The issue incorporates commentary from educators, public figures, and local representatives from the revolutionary districts associated with the uprising.

The magazine will be launched at the St. Cyril and Methodius School in Koprivshtitsa on Monday, April 20, coinciding with the Day of the First Shot. BTA Director General Kiril Valchev stated that the publication summarizes key discussions held at national press clubs and in the four revolutionary districts—Veliko Tarnovo, Sliven, Vratsa, and Panagyurishte.

He noted that while the discussions highlighted lessons relevant to the present, the central consensus was that the uprising ultimately contributed to Bulgaria’s freedom. Contributors emphasized the significance of the struggle, noting the youth of the leaders. Professor Georgi Valchev highlighted that the revolutionaries prioritized achieving political freedom over maintaining established familial wealth.

Furthermore, Professor Atanas Semov affirmed that the April Uprising represents the “greatest collective endeavor of the Bulgarian people.”

The LIK magazine features a thematic timeline compiling news reports on the uprising from BTA’s archives, spanning from 1898 to the present. The publication also details commemorative events planned for the 150th anniversary in 2026. These resources ensure a comprehensive documentation of the historical impact and enduring memory of the uprising.
