LIK Issue Dedicated to 150 Years Since April Uprising Launches in Koprivshtitsa

The latest issue of BTA’s LIK magazine is dedicated to commemorating the 150th anniversary of the April Uprising of 1876. The publication, from the Bulgarian News Agency, examines the uprising through archival materials, incorporating records of commemorations held over the years within BTA’s news service. The magazine features commentary from educators, public figures, and local representatives from the revolutionary districts associated with the historical event.

The launch event is scheduled for Monday, April 20th, at the St St Cyril and Methodius School in Koprivshtitsa. In its introduction, BTA Director General Kiril Valchev stated that the issue synthesizes discussions held at national press clubs and in the centers of the four revolutionary districts. He noted that while the discussions covered important lessons relevant to the present, a key consensus emerged: focusing on overarching goals was crucial, as the Uprising ultimately contributed to Bulgaria’s freedom.

Journalists also highlighted the youth of the leaders, noting that many key figures were young men from established families who prioritized political freedom. Furthermore, contributions discuss the ideological choice made by the revolutionaries—choosing ideals over maintaining existing wealth. Prof.

Atanas Semov contributed an article titled “The April Uprising and the National Character,” asserting that the Uprising represents the greatest collective endeavor of the Bulgarian people. The LIK magazine also presents a thematic timeline compiling news reports from BTA’s archives, spanning from the agency’s founding in 1898 to the present. The publication recalls historical commemorations, including events in 1945 and 1
