The Bulgarian-Macedonian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BMCCI) was officially launched on Friday during a ceremony held at the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI). Attendees included Deputy Minister of Economy and Industry Anton Kostadinov, the Ambassador of the Republic of North Macedonia to Bulgaria, Agneza Rusi-Popovska, local government officials from Southwestern Bulgaria, the Chair of the Macedonian–Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce Biljana Miteva, and business representatives from both nations. Atanas Radev was named the inaugural chair of the new bilateral chamber.
In his address, Radev emphasized building connections between the two neighboring countries. Kostadinov stated that the economic bridge between Bulgaria and North Macedonia is nearly complete despite recent challenges. He stressed that achieving deeper economic ties is crucial, noting that the current trade turnover of EUR 1.3 billion is insufficient given the potential of the bilateral relationship.
He identified energy, construction, pharmaceuticals, tourism, and agriculture as sectors ripe for cooperation, calling for pragmatic dialogue among business organizations. Ambassador Rusi-Popovska highlighted that Bulgaria is a vital trading partner and a gateway to the EU for North Macedonia, linking deeper economic integration to North Macedonia’s EU process. She noted that while trade has remained stable, investment activity requires boosting.
Key sectors for enhanced cooperation include energy, manufacturing, transport, and digital services. Ivan Todorov, Vice President of the BCCI, also stressed the need for improved connectivity across road, rail, and air transport. The BMCCI immediately hosted its first Bulgarian–Macedonian Business Forum, aiming to generate joint venture opportunities and strengthen ties with state and municipal institutions.
The chamber plans to host similar forums annually in both countries.
