-Macedonian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Launched in Sofia

The Bulgarian-Macedonian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BMCCI) was formally launched on Friday during an event hosted by the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI). Attendees included Deputy Minister of Economy and Industry Anton Kostadinov, the Ambassador of the Republic of North Macedonia to Bulgaria, Agneza Rusi-Popovska, local government officials, and business representatives from both nations. Atanas Radev will serve as the inaugural chair of the new bilateral chamber.

During his address, Radev emphasized the necessity of building bridges between the two neighboring countries. Kostadinov noted that while economic cooperation and deepening ties are clear goals, the current trade turnover of EUR 1.3 billion is significantly below the potential of the relationship. He identified sectors with strong potential for collaboration, such as energy, construction, pharmaceuticals, tourism, and agriculture, and advocated for a constructive dialogue among business organizations.

Ambassador Rusi-Popovska highlighted that Bulgaria is a crucial trading partner for North Macedonia, acting not only as a neighbor but also as a gateway to the European Union. She linked deeper economic integration to North Macedonia’s European process, while also urging an increase in investment activity. Key areas for enhanced cooperation she mentioned include energy, manufacturing, transport, and digital services.

Ivan Todorov, Vice President of the BCCI, echoed the need for improved connectivity across road, rail, and air transport to fully realize the business potential between the two nations. The newly formed chamber aims to strengthen business relations and foster joint ventures. The BMCCI plans to host annual business forums—one in each country—to advance the goals of mutual commerce and industry development.
