According to the mayor, Bulgarians currently suffer from a “deficit of pride,” and this anniversary offers a chance to recall the achievements of their ancestors, stressing the shared roots between past and present generations.
He contrasted the revolutionary fervor of the youth in 1876, who prepared for sacrifice, with the current generation, which he observed engaging with social media. Gagov stressed that the heroes of the uprising were not mythological figures but real individuals. He urged Bulgarians to understand their legacy on a human level, asserting that the sacrifices made by those “ordinary people whom history made great” are relevant to the present.
The conference is part of a broader series of discussions organized by the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) under the initiative “14 Centuries of Bulgaria in Europe.”
