Caretaker Prime Minister Andrey Gurov reflected on the significance of freedom on the 150th anniversary of the April Uprising on Monday. Speaking via Facebook, Gurov stated that the concept of freedom has shifted from a matter of possibility to one of deliberate choice. He recalled that 150 years prior, revolutionaries rose up to secure the right for all Bulgarians to make their own choices—a right, he noted, that Bulgarians exercised recently.
According to the minister, freedom is not a singular event but an ongoing commitment. Gurov emphasized the necessity of remaining vigilant, thoughtful, and vocal when the defense of freedom requires it. In his tribute to the heroes of the April Uprising, the Prime Minister shared a video clip containing a letter from the Bulgarian revolutionary and poet Hristo Botev, addressed to Ivan Grudov, Ivan Kavaldzhiev, and Georgi Stranski.
The address served as a reflection on the enduring importance of civic engagement and the preservation of national rights. Gurov’s remarks underscored that the commitment to freedom requires continuous awareness and active participation from the citizenry. The occasion prompted the caretaker Prime Minister to honor the historical struggle represented by the April Uprising.
