Minister Gurov Commemorates April Uprising Anniversary

Caretaker Prime Minister Andrey Gurov addressed the 150th anniversary of the April Uprising on Monday, stating that the concept of freedom has shifted from a question of possibility to one of conscious choice. Gurov reflected on the historical event, noting that 150 years prior, revolutionaries rose up to secure the right for all Bulgarians to choose their path—a right, he observed, that Bulgarians exercised recently. According to the Prime Minister, freedom is not a singular event but rather an ongoing commitment.

He emphasized the necessity of remaining alert, maintaining critical thought, and remaining vocal when defending freedom. In a tribute to the heroes of the April Uprising, Gurov shared a video clip on his Facebook page. This video featured him reciting a letter originally written by the Bulgarian revolutionary and poet Hristo Botev to fellow activists, including Ivan Grudov, Ivan Kavaldzhiev, and Georgi Stranski.

The remarks by the minister served as a reflection on Bulgarian national identity and civic duty. Gurov’s address underscored the active participation required to sustain liberties. The commemoration linked the historical struggles of the April Uprising to contemporary civic responsibility, urging continued vigilance among the populace.
