In a video address posted on Facebook, the acting Secretary General of the Interior Ministry, Georgi Kandev, stated that he has faced attempts to exert pressure. Kandev addressed the public, noting that he received messages urging him to step down. He asserted that those who previously relied on silence and compliance are attempting similar tactics, using what he described as the same words and arrogance.
The acting secretary general emphasized that his tenure is not subject to threats or private negotiations. He stated, “I am not here to bow to threats and backroom deals. I am here to work the way you have seen over the past two months.”
According to Kandev, on Thursday, he received several calls from undisclosed mobile numbers.
These calls informed him that an individual known as “Kartofa,” along with associates, were providing false testimony against him at the Sofia City Prosecution Office. Kandev alleged that this action was orchestrated by a former official within the Interior Ministry, identified by the first name “Svetlyo.” He speculated that the motive behind this scenario was to implicate him and compel him to resign from his post. The general questioned the Sofia City Prosecution Service regarding the testimony provided by individuals who were reportedly “convicted and criminally charged.” Kandev also questioned the identities of those directing the situation and the timing of these actions.
Concluding his statement, Kandev firmly declared his resolve: “I will not follow their model. Silence is not an option. I will not back down.”
