Ministry’s Acting Secretary General Says He Has Been Pressured

In a video statement posted on Facebook, acting Secretary General Georgi Kandev addressed allegations of pressure surrounding his position. Kandev stated that he had received messages urging him to withdraw, noting that those who previously relied on silence and compliance were attempting a similar approach using what he characterized as the same tactics and arrogance. He asserted that his tenure would not be dictated by threats or private negotiations.

The Secretary General recounted receiving multiple calls on Thursday, during which he was informed via mobile application from undisclosed numbers that an individual known as “Kartofa,” along with associates, were providing testimony against him at the Sofia City Prosecution Office. Kandev alleged that this action was organized by a former official at the Interior Ministry named “Svetlyo.” He speculated that the underlying objective was to fabricate evidence to discredit him and compel his resignation. In his address, the acting Secretary General posed several questions to the Sofia City Prosecution Service, questioning the validity of the testimony provided by “convicted and criminally charged individuals” that day and seeking to identify the masterminds behind the situation.

Kandev emphasized that he would not follow the established pattern of compliance. He concluded by firmly stating, “Silence is not an option. I will not back down!” The statement underscored his commitment to his role as secretary general, rejecting any attempt to force him to abandon his duties.
