More Measles Cases Reported, Bringing Total to 165

The Bulgarian Ministry of Health reported an increase in measles activity, with six additional cases registered, bringing the cumulative total to 165 as of April 23, according to data published on the Ministry’s website. The recently confirmed infections were geographically distributed, with two new cases reported in Vratsa, two in Lovech, and one each in Pleven and Sofia. These recent figures follow an initial outbreak period.

The Ministry first confirmed eight measles cases on March 19, all located within the Vratsa region. In response to the rising health concerns, authorities implemented immediate measures, including an order for emergency immunization targeting all children who had missed scheduled vaccinations. In parallel efforts to control the spread, vaccination campaigns have been active.

As of Wednesday, officials noted that 20,000 children had received vaccinations against measles, mumps, and rubella since the beginning of March. The Ministry emphasized the ongoing commitment to public health protocols to mitigate the spread of communicable diseases. The continuous monitoring of measles cases and the administration of vaccinations remain central to the national health strategy.
