Data compiled from the Agricultural Market Information System (AMIS) for the seventeenth week of 2026 indicates positive trends in Bulgaria’s food market as of mid-April. Greenhouse vegetable prices continued to decrease for the third consecutive week, while the core consumer basket—including meat, milk, bread, and legumes—remained stable when compared to the second week of April. In mid-April, significant price reductions were reported for several items.
Cucumbers dropped by 13% to €2.98 per kilogram, and tomatoes fell by 11% to €3.65 per kg. Eggplants saw an 11% decline, and strawberries dropped 4% to €4.85 per kg. These decreases are attributed to the increased influx of local produce into the market.
Conversely, some items, such as lettuce and spinach, registered price increases. Basic staple goods, including flour, sugar, rice, and cooking oil, largely maintained their pricing from the previous week. However, regional variations are pronounced; for instance, the price of greenhouse tomatoes varied substantially, recorded at €2.80/kg in Plovdiv but reaching €4.80/kg in Montana and Vidin.
