Of the Year 2025 Ceremony Highlights Bulgaria’s Strong Investment Growth, Innovation Focus

Bulgaria’s investment environment was highlighted as demonstrating growth, diversification, and a strategic focus on high-value industries during the 20th Investor of the Year awards ceremony, organized by the InvestBulgaria Agency (IBA), which also marked its 30th anniversary. The formal event took place at the Hyatt Regency Sofia hotel on Monday evening. The top honor, Investor of the Year 2025, was awarded to BTL Industries Bulgaria for a EUR 51 million investment in Plovdiv, which generated over 700 jobs.

The company, established in Bulgaria in 1998, now serves as BTL’s global production base and employs over 850 people, exporting medical devices to more than 120 countries. During the ceremony, leadership noted that the award acknowledges sustained development in Bulgaria, suggesting the nation’s potential as a major medical technology hub. Bulgarian President Iliana Iotova presented the award and the “Golden Bull” statuette to the company’s CEO, Veselin Karavasilev.

Other major awards showcased varied geographic and sectoral investment, recognizing companies like Intuitive Surgical Bulgaria for a greenfield project, Aero Technic BG for aviation expansion, and Nestlé Bulgaria for growth in the capital. The focus across all categories remained on job creation, technological advancement, and regional economic impact. Furthermore, the InvestBulgaria Agency reported that foreign direct investment in Bulgaria surpassed EUR 800 million in the first two months of 2026, nearly doubling the previous year’s figure.

Agency officials attributed this growth to Bulgaria’s macroeconomic stability, competitive tax system, and human capital. For the coming year, the nation aims to attract investment in manufacturing, ICT, research and development, and education, prioritizing projects that generate higher added value.
