Police Detain Man for Illegal Fishing of Soft-shell Clams at Elenite Resort

The Executive Agency for Fisheries and Aquaculture (EAFA) reported on Monday that an individual was apprehended for the illegal harvesting of soft-shell clams in the waters near the Elenite resort. Border Police officers, collaborating with EAFA control bodies, detained the offender on Sunday while conducting operations in the Black Sea. Authorities recovered approximately 150 kilograms of soft-shell clams from the boat used by the individual.

The vessel, which lacked any visible registration number or external markings, was involved in the violation. Following the seizure, the captured clams were returned to the marine environment. An official act was issued against the owner of the vessel for breaching the regulations stipulated in the Fisheries and Aquaculture Act.

EAFA officials emphasized that monitoring the fishing of these specific clams is conducted under stringent protocols. They stated that regular, joint inspections are performed along the entire Black Sea coastline. These coordinated efforts are designed to actively curb illegal poaching activities and ensure the protection of vital marine biological resources.

The agency reiterated its commitment to enforcing conservation laws regarding shellfish populations.
