’s National News Agency Editor-in-Chief Visits BTA National Press Club in Skopje

Vijay Joshi, CEO and Editor-in-Chief of the Press Trust of India (PTI), recently conducted professional visits to the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) in Skopje and Belgrade, North Macedonia, and Serbia. These visits, which included engaging with the BTA’s correspondent network, highlighted strengthening media cooperation between the two agencies. Joshi and BTA Director General Kiril Valchev also participated in the spring conference and annual general meeting of MINDS International – Media Innovation Network in Vienna, Austria.

This forum gathers global news agencies, where BTA presented “Digital Life for BTA’s Archives,” detailing its efforts to digitize its 128-year history. The ongoing partnership between PTI and BTA was established on October 6, 2023, in Toronto, Canada, during the 35th MINDS conference. This agreement grants both parties full access to the other’s English-language news service, alongside provisions for daily news exchanges and professional visits.

These collaborations have already facilitated exchanges, including PTI correspondent Aditi Khanna covering European and Bulgarian elections, and BTA correspondent Nikolay Velev covering India’s general elections. Looking ahead, Joshi is scheduled to visit Tryavna for BTA-related discussions marking the 160th anniversary of Pencho Slaveykov. Furthermore, Joshi and Valchev will attend the annual BNR Top 20 Music Awards in Sofia.

These engagements underscore the commitment to enhancing information services. The national press organizations continue to build bridges, with the bta facilitating deeper understanding between India and Bulgaria, while the national press clubs host these crucial professional dialogues.
