Petar Zahov, General Manager of the Katarino SPA Hotel in Razlog, reported growing international interest in the establishment, noting strong visitor interest from Israel, Greece, Romania, and North Macedonia. While Bulgarian visitors remain the primary clientele, Zahov indicated that the interest from foreign markets reflects both sustained regional demand and recognized brand appeal across the Balkans and the Middle East. The hotel’s reputation was recently highlighted by its ranking as the top five-star mountain hotel in Bulgaria for 2025, marking the second consecutive year it achieved this distinction based on the HotScore™ index, which evaluates over 1,200 hotels nationwide.
The Katarino SPA Hotel has accumulated several accolades, including recognition for best four-star mountain spa hotel in 2020 and best four-star spa hotel offering locally sourced cuisine in 2022. The hotel’s comprehensive spa facilities are accessible to all guests and feature numerous thermal and relaxation amenities. These include indoor and outdoor pools heated to approximately 34°C, a cave-style jacuzzi, a salt room, and various saunas (Finnish, Kiva, and infrared).
Further offerings include a laconium, aroma and panoramic steam bath, and a tepidarium. Beyond the facilities, the spa provides a range of treatments, including hydrotherapy options like flotation and Cleopatra baths, alongside classic, deep-tissue, and hot stone massages. Specialized programs cater to stress management, recovery, and preventive care.
The wellness focus is continually expanding, exemplified by the addition of a new outdoor pool with an infinity jacuzzi in 2023. In related industry news, BTA is featuring certified spa and wellness centers in Bulgaria through its BG SPA: Salus per aquam initiative. This effort, a partnership with the Ministry of Tourism, is connected to the HEALTHXCHANGE SUMMIT in 2026, where BTA will serve as the main media partner.
