Students Announce New Major Protest in May

Students in Serbia have indicated plans for a new, large-scale protest scheduled for May, according to posts shared on the X platform by an account titled “Students Win!”. The announcements suggest an effort to organize a demonstration mirroring the anti-government protests that have taken place over the last eighteen months. The current mobilization appears to stem from the incident on November 1, 2024, when a concrete canopy collapsed at a renovated railway station in Novi Sad, resulting in 16 fatalities and multiple injuries.

In subsequent posts, the students referenced dates of previous large demonstrations, specifically citing December 22, 2024, at Slavija Square in Belgrade, alongside March 15 and June 28, 2025, also in Belgrade. They stated that this sequence of events would continue. The call for action intensified on May 5, 2025, when the students publicly demanded early parliamentary elections in Serbia.

While the group previously used the phrase “See you soon!” during university blockades in late 2024 in solidarity with the victims of the November incident, the latest messaging points to a forthcoming protest in May, though a specific date has not been confirmed. The coordinated effort by the students continues to draw attention to political and institutional issues within the country.
