A ceremonial academic session commemorating the 150th anniversary of the April Uprising of 1876 is scheduled to take place in Sofia on Monday. St Kliment Ohridski Sofia University noted that the April Uprising represented a purely Bulgarian undertaking whose outcome was pivotal in the consolidation of the Bulgarian nation’s struggle for freedom. To mark this significant historical milestone, several institutions are collaborating on the event.
Organizers include Sofia University, the State Archives Agency, the G.S. Rakovski National Defence College, the St Cyril and St Methodius University of Veliko Turnovo, the St Cyril and St Methodius National Library, and the Institute for Historical Studies at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. The day’s activities begin at 11:00 am with a ceremony held at the National Defence College.
This is followed by the opening of the academic session at 1:00 pm in the Rectorate of Sofia University, where historians will lead discussions across two specialized panels. Additionally, a poster exhibition dedicated to the April Uprising will open at 1:45 pm in the Rectorate foyer, curated by Asst. Prof.
Vladimir Terziev. The commemorative events conclude in the late afternoon with the opening of the exhibition, “For the Freedom of a Nation,” at the National Library. This exhibition is jointly presented by the National Library and the State Archives Agency.
