A ceremonial academic session marking the 150th Anniversary of the April Uprising of 1876 will take place in Sofia on Monday. St Kliment Ohridski Sofia University stated that the April Uprising was an undertaking solely by the Bulgarian people, an event whose outcome solidified the Bulgarian nation’s struggle for freedom. To commemorate this pivotal moment in Bulgarian history, several key institutions are collaborating on the event.
Organizers include Sofia University, the State Archives Agency, the G.S. Rakovski National Defence College, the St Cyril and St Methodius University of Veliko Turnovo, the St Cyril and St Methodius National Library, and the Institute for Historical Studies at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. The commemorative activities are scheduled throughout the day.
The proceedings will begin at 11:00 am with a ceremony held at the National Defence College. Following this, the academic session will open at 1:00 pm in the Rectorate of Sofia University, where historians will participate in discussions across two specialized panels. An additional poster exhibition dedicated to the April Uprising will open at 1:45 pm in the Rectorate foyer, curated by Asst.
