Two of President Iotova’s Armenia Visit for European Political Community Summit

Bulgarian President Iliana Iotova remains in Armenia for the Eighth Summit of the European Political Community, which commenced in Yerevan on Monday, according to the President’s press secretariat. A key focus of President Iotova’s participation is a high-level event addressing the impact of the Vertical Gas Corridor on regional energy security. This strategic initiative aims to bolster energy security and diversify natural gas supplies across Southeastern, Eastern, and Central Europe.

During her address at the forum, President Iotova is slated to emphasize European transport and energy connectivity. In addition to the main summit proceedings, she is scheduled to participate in an event titled “European Coalition Against Drugs.” On the sidelines, she will meet with Greek President Konstantinos Tasoulas. The Summit is being co-chaired by European Council President Antonio Costa and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

Previously, on Sunday, President Iotova and Pashinyan signed a Joint Declaration on Strategic Partnership between Bulgaria and Armenia. During her visit, President Iotova also toured the Peyo Yavorov Primary School in Yerevan, named after the notable Bulgarian poet. Furthermore, President Iotova and her Armenian counterpart, Vahagn Khachaturyan, discussed avenues to strengthen bilateral cooperation.

President Iotova underscored the significance of the European Political Community in enhancing connectivity and advancing relations throughout Europe, particularly concerning energy infrastructure like the gas corridor.
