The Central Election Commission has informed that thirteen specific candidates who were elected in two separate constituencies must now select one area to represent them in the upcoming 52nd National Assembly. This decision must be finalized by Friday. The recent early parliamentary elections in April saw a total of 1,019 candidates participating across two constituencies, representing the maximum allowable participation.
The thirteen individuals in question are notable as they represent the leadership of all five coalitions and parties that secured seats in the new legislature. Among the prominent elected figures requiring this designation are Rumen Radev of Progressive Bulgaria, Boyko Borissov of GERB-UDF, and the duo of Assen Vassilev and Nikolay Denkov from Continue the Change – Democratic Bulgaria. Additionally, Delyan Peevski representing the Movement for Rights and Freedoms, and Kostadin Kostadinov of Vazrazhdane, are among those who must choose their primary constituency.
The Commission’s directive clarifies the procedural requirement for these highly visible candidates. Having been elected in multiple districts, these candidates must formally commit to a single constituency to solidify their mandate within the structure of the National Assembly.
