Just under 200,000 Bulgarian citizens cast their ballots abroad following the early parliamentary elections held on April 19. During a briefing on Monday, the caretaker Foreign Minister, Nadezhda Neynsky, reported these figures. According to the minister, 53,000 of these overseas voters cast their votes using electronic machines.
Neynsky noted that a significant portion of the electorate, specifically 156,000 voters, or 81% of the total, did not pre-register and instead submitted applications to vote on Election Day. The minister attributed this high number of on-site applications to slowdowns in the process. Regarding the international polling efforts, the Foreign Minister provided updates from several countries.
She confirmed that ballot counting in the westernmost sections of the United States was still in progress. Furthermore, she detailed instances where voting extended beyond the scheduled close of polls. In Turkiye, voting continued in seven sections due to queues of citizens waiting to cast their votes.
In the United Kingdom, five sections in London required extended working hours. Additionally, voting continued past 8 p.m. in single sections in Spain and Norway, and in two sections within Serbia, according to the statements made by the foreign minister.
