52nd National Assembly Opens

The 52nd National Assembly of Bulgaria convened for its inaugural session at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday. In accordance with constitutional procedure, the opening proceedings were conducted by Rumen Milanov, a 78-year-old Member of Parliament representing Progressive Bulgaria.

During his address to the legislative body, Milanov outlined two primary objectives for the newly convened assembly: reinforcing the rule of law and ensuring national peace. Following the address, Milanov administered the official oath to the 240 lawmakers present. The oath requires each member to swear, “I do swear in the name of the Republic of Bulgaria that I will observe the Constitution and the laws of the land and will be guided in all my actions by the interests of the people.

I have sworn to it.”

The ceremony was marked by the playing of the Bulgarian national anthem, followed by the anthem of Europe within the debating chamber. During the performance of the “Ode to Joy,” members of the Vazrazhdane faction remained seated. After the proceedings, all MPs were required to sign the official oath documentation and submit it to the administration.

The opening of this new national assembly marked the formal commencement of the legislative term for Bulgaria. The procedures underscored the commitment of the representatives to upholding the country’s constitutional framework and serving the populace.
